A Republican campaign volunteer was brutally beaten by people who said Republicans ‘weren’t allowed’ in their area, Florida GOP Senator Marco Rubio said on Monday morning.

The canvasser was clad in Rubio’s campaign gear and that of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the senator said.

‘Last night one of our canvassers wearing my T-shirt and a Desantis hat was brutally attacked by 4 animals who told him Republicans weren’t allowed in their neighborhood,’ Rubio wrote on Twitter.

‘He suffered internal bleeding, a broken jaw & will need facial reconstructive surgery.’

It’s not immediately clear whether law enforcement is investigating the alleged incident, or what led up to it. DailyMail.com has reached out to the local police department for more information.

A request for further details to Rubio’s campaign was referred to the state Republican Party.

The incident reportedly occurred in the city of Hialeah, which is located in Miami-Dade County.

Its mayor, Esteban Bovo, is a Republican, but the county overall narrowly voted for President Joe Biden in 2020.

State lawmaker and former Florida GOP chair Blaise Ingoglia called on prominent Democrats in the state including gubernatorial candidate Rep. Charlie Crist to condemn the incident.

It comes amid a wave of Republican criticism directed at the president for his harsh campaign trail attacks on the pro-Trump faction of the GOP.

He recently derided them as ‘mega MAGA Republicans’ in a Sunday interview on MSNBC and has panned them as ‘extremists’ in appearances across the country alongside Democratic midterm candidates.

Biden said in Philadelphia last month: ‘Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.’

The Republican National Committee immediately accused the president of fomenting violence, writing in a statement: ‘Joe Biden’s wretched attacks on millions of Americans have fueled attacks on pregnancy centers, Republican offices, and an assassination attempt on a Supreme Court Justice.’

Growing political divisions have led to a surge in online and real life confrontations that have enveloped both lawmakers and everyday Americans.

The Department of Homeland Security has sent out multiple bulletins this year alone that warn of increased threats against federal employees and others in the political sphere.

All the while, violent rhetoric is becoming normalized language to invigorate the voter base.

Donald Trump said earlier in October that Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell ‘has a death wish’ over the Kentucky Republican’s vote to fund the government and avoid a shutdown.

And Democrat Rep. Tim Ryan, who is running for an open Senate seat in Ohio, said on MSNBC last month that Americans must ‘kill and confront’ the MAGA Republican movement.

An armed 26-year-old was arrested in June of this year near the home of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

The young man told police he wanted to kill a specific member of the court because he was ‘upset’ at the then-draft decision to overturn abortion protections in Roe v. Wade.
